So, drive carefully!
I graduated from Chauncey High this night 22 years ago. Time flies!
This year we have a bunch of seniors, but they're mentioned on the front page of the paper, so I won't go into a lot of detail about them. I would like to congratulate my nephew, John David Williamson, who is graduating from college this week. His degree is in business so I guess he can do whatever he wants. I haven't heard him say what his plans are, but I'm sure he will do well.
Little Johnny, as we called him when he was a toddler (Big Johnny being, of course, his grandfather, Johnny Williamson), graduated from CHS in 2003, the year after John's brother Jeff, his cousins Dallas & Daniel Williamson and their cousin Kristin Kendall all graduated the same night. That was an expensive year for the Williamson family! John David is the son of my half-sister Teresa Bruce Williamson & her husband Dwayne.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Lucille Eden, her son Robbie Eden, & his granddaughter Tansy Eden. Another Robbie, this one Mark's cousin Robbie Starr, celebrates this week too. He's 25! The late Janice Weakley & her brother Ronnie Duffy both had birthdays this week too.
Well, that's all I have tonight! Later!

April 16 almanac
It's a day late - it's the 17th...but there's a good reason...
It's a girl!!!
My fourth grandbaby got here Sunday morning at 6:50 am. Her name is Shelby Leigh Parsons. She weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces & is 21 inches long. She has red hair like her aunt Rebecca. Congratulations to mom Kendy & daddy Mark (my oldest). Welcoming Miss Shelby are her sister Leslie Anne (5) & brothers Michael (3 1/2) & Austin (18 months). They certainly have their hands full.
I apologize for the tardiness. And our prayers go out to the Virginia Tech community.
More later...

April 9 - Welcome to the new home of the Chauncey Almanac!
Welcome to the new home of the Chauncey Almanac! I am so glad you came by. Please visit often!!!
Well, as I wrote a few months ago, I'm Michele "Missy" Nixon, life-long resident (except for when I went to college) of Chauncey, TN & proud of it! As many of you readers know, I own Missy's Arts & Crafts Studio in Chauncey in the old Sloan Grocery/Trinity Church building. I left the cross on there. Right now I've only got the store open Thursday through Saturday. That gives me time to do my weekly column for the Gazette. It wasn't weekly for awhile - in fact, for the last few months I have been busy trying to work another job besides the store so I haven't had time to write. I finally left that job so I'm able to resume the job I love best - taking care of the studio. And that gives me time to write & keep house too!
I might even get to write more than once a week - we'll see.
Today I'd like to say "Happy Easter Birthday" to all the present & former Chauncey residents & family members who have birthdays around Easter. Since the date we celebrate Easter changes every year...what is up with that? The first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox? Doesn't that sound pagan? Not that I'm trashing pagans, but isn't Easter when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ???
Anyway, I digress. Since the date of Easter changes each year, most of these people have either had an Easter birthday or they will at some point in the next 50 years. They are: Mark Parsons (can you believe my oldest turned 26 this month???), Eric Parsons, Erica Parsons, Vanessa Duffy, Marty Lynne Hopper, Jason Weakley, Tara Hooberry, Keith Nixon (the hubby turned 40 at last), Mike Renfro (Happy Birthday Daddy!!!) & Jody Dunn. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody. So, please call or write me & let me know if I forgot you. When I talked to Marty Lynne last week, she reminded me that her late ex-brother-in-law, Jimmy Heflin (also Jody Dunn's brother), as well as her late father, Marty Weakley, & late brother, Daniel Weakley, had birthdays during this season. Hope you all had - or will have - big birthday celebrations!!!
Check back with me next week for more history and current day trivia.
